Bass spawn in late May and June depositing their eggs in shallow, gravelly areas. Males guard eggs and fry.

They live in deep water, often around rocks, sand, or gravel areas. They prefer water temperatures under 70?F (21?C).

Crayfish are the favored food, but temperatures also eat larval and adult insects, frogs, and tadpoles, and a variety of small fish.
